Playing responsibly

Keep the math honest, set limits, and know where to find help.

Perfect strategy still leaves gambling risk

Perfect play removes avoidable hold mistakes; it does not create a guaranteed profit. Every game currently modeled here has a configured return below 100%, from 99.73% NSUD Deuces Wild to 98.01% 7/5 Bonus Poker. Short-term luck can produce wins, but it cannot erase the long-run edge.

The $3.38 figure is not a loss limit. Actual results over 1,000 hands can be hundreds or thousands of credits away from expectation, especially in volatile games. No strategy, bankroll size, or betting progression makes money needed for essentials safe to gamble.

Keep practice results in their proper place

Sharper Edge is educational software. It has no real-money wagering or prizes, and its bankroll resets for free. That makes it useful for learning decisions without financial risk. It does not reproduce the emotions, speed, promotions, or consequences of casino gambling, and success here is not evidence that a future real-money session will win.

Treat accuracy and strategy cost as learning measurements. Do not treat a rising practice balance as income, a prediction, or a reason to increase a real wager.

Decide the boundaries before gambling

  • Use only money that can be lost without affecting bills, debt, savings, or other people.
  • Set both a money limit and a time limit before starting. A win is not permission to remove them.
  • Never chase a loss. Increasing play cannot make earlier wagers come back.
  • Avoid gambling when distressed, impaired, or trying to solve a financial problem.
  • Take regular breaks and keep gambling separate from everyday payment accounts where possible.
  • Follow local age and gambling laws. If gambling is not legal for you, do not participate.

Warning signs include hiding play, borrowing money, missing obligations, feeling unable to stop, or continuing mainly to recover losses. You do not need to wait for a crisis—or be certain there is a “serious enough” problem—to ask for support.

Support is available for players and loved ones

If gambling is causing stress, financial harm, conflict, or loss of control, step away and tell someone you trust. Voluntary self-exclusion, payment blocks, counseling, peer support, and local treatment resources can all create useful distance. Loved ones can contact support services too.

Free U.S. support is available 24/7

The National Problem Gambling Helpline connects people in all 50 states and U.S. territories with local support. Call or text 1-800-MY-RESET, or use the confidential online chat. No payment or insurance information is required.

This is not an emergency line. In the U.S., call or text 988 for a mental-health crisis, or call 911 for immediate danger. Outside the U.S., use your local health service.

Exact video poker practice with no real-money wagering, prizes, or player accounts.

Video poker is a negative-expectation game even with perfect play. This site teaches the math, not a way to beat it. If gambling stops feeling like a choice, support is available.
