About Sharper Edge
Practice the decision, not the result.
Sharper Edge Video Poker Trainer is an educational practice application for learning pay-table-specific hold strategy. It deals realistic five-card hands, evaluates every hold, explains the expected-value cost of mistakes, and keeps luck separate from skill.
Why it exists
Video poker decisions look simple, but small changes in a pay table can change the best hold. A trainer is most useful when it shows more than a green check or red X. Sharper Edge is designed to show the alternatives, quantify the gap, and make recurring mistakes visible in Review and Statistics.
Decision quality over short-term luck
A winning draw can follow a costly hold, and an optimal hold can still lose. The trainer keeps those two ideas separate.
Calculation over intuition
Every possible hold is scored against every legal completion for the selected pay table, with exact arithmetic used for comparisons.
Clear limits over inflated claims
Sharper Edge is practice software, not a casino, profit system, certification service, or substitute for responsible gambling limits.
What the trainer does
It does
- evaluate all 32 holds for each five-card deal;
- show exact EV rankings and draw-result probabilities;
- support 10 specific max-bet pay-table configurations;
- save practice records in the browser for review; and
- teach the concepts behind return, variance, strategy cost, and responsible play.
It does not
- accept deposits, wagers, or withdrawals;
- award money, prizes, or casino credit;
- guarantee a win or positive return;
- certify that a casino machine uses the same rules or pay table; or
- provide financial, legal, or gambling-treatment advice.
Editorial and technical accountability
The site currently publishes under the Sharper Edge product name. It does not publish a named individual author, technical reviewer, legal entity, or claimed professional credential. Learning articles should therefore be read as product documentation maintained with the application, not as advice carrying an undisclosed expert endorsement.
Calculation logic, configured payouts, tests, and verification tools live with the application source. The Methodology explains the exact enumeration, source basis, verification approach, and known limits. That transparency is intended to make the claims inspectable without inventing authority the project does not currently publish.
A dedicated public correction or contact address is not currently provided. The correction process therefore has a real limitation: visitors cannot yet submit a private inquiry through the site. When a calculation changes, the expected engineering process is to reproduce the issue, add a test, correct the engine or pay-table configuration, rerun the relevant verification, and update affected public documentation.
Practice cannot remove gambling risk
Every game currently supported by Sharper Edge has a configured perfect-play return below 100%. Perfect strategy can reduce avoidable decision cost; it cannot control the deal, guarantee a winning session, or make money set aside for essentials safe to gamble.
